Ba da da ba da
His toes tapped out the beat. Ba dum dum. Toe heel heel. Again. Toe heel heel. Again. Peter loved his new tap shoes. He loved his new practice spot. He loved how this beat practically sprung from his feet and spiraled into the sky, echoing on and on until he, Peter Zikeman, decided that it should be silent. Toe heel heel. Heel toe heel. Shake it up a little, eh? Peter grinned and then backed away from the edge of the roof. He breathed deep. The air was quite fresh and rejuvinating. Almost inspirational. Fresh air, open spaces-- he often wished that more plays were done outdoors instead of inside the theatre. Of course the weather would have to be dealt with then... still, singing in the rain would be an experience. He would have to do it sometime. In fact, he made a note to himself to do it as soon as possible. He and Temp would skip out of class if they had to, and they'd do cartwheels across the slippery grass while shouting some lyrics from some musical at the top of their lungs. How fun.
And then he did a little dance, recalling a routine from not long ago. It sprung to his head and ticked at his knees then commanded his feet and soon, he was tapping away, a rhythm weaving into a song that he himself could sing-- if he so wished to.
"Cuz I'm too--"
Tap!
"Darn!"
Tap!
"Hot!"

S. h. E. l. l.The dark, glowering eyes of the female could not be stopped. She stood out in any crowd, what with her coon eyes and matching coon tails. She wasn't ugly, either. Her slim figure was displayed by her tight Avenged Sevenfold Tee and her yellow plaid skinny jeans. Her checkered flats only drew more attention to herself as her bleach blonde hair and her brightly tipped fingernails did. She demanded attention and most people on the campus were delighted to give it to her. Or, so she thought and so she wanted. Shell wasn't the type to be ignored. Ignore her, and feel her wrath.
But she was tiring of the crowds and constant staring and figured she'd retreat to a spot that could usually be her salvation. Though, as the door to the roof opened, she realized she was not alone. 'Cause I'm too darn hot! She couldn't stop the giggle that came from her mouth as she stepped into his solo. She closed the door behind her and stepped into the cold air, wishing a tiny bit that she had bothered with grabbing a jacket from her locker. Hello. She greeted kindly.

He hit the final pose perfectly and this is the way it should be because Peter had known this routine for many a year. He felt proud of himself as he aced it again, his chest heaving up and down from the exercise and rush of oxygen. For a moment it seemed as if he didn't realize that another person was there. But he did. Peter loved an audience. He noticed when she came in and it always made him try harder to impress. That's what he loved to do: Impress people, see them smile and clap all because of him. It was a self-esteem booster.
But still, when she said 'hello' it seemed to shock him to reality. As in, 'oh I'm not alone now, I can't exactly do what I was planning to do now can I?' But then again, he could always do something else. Surprises were nice that way.
Peter looked at the girl. She was what Paul would say 'emo.' Her style was unique; he admired her for that. She had killer hair and again Peter felt a certain respect toward her. Style, hair. Two things that were very important to him. Ah, how superficial he could be!
"Enjoying the show?" He teased the girl, bouncing on the balls of his feet then falling back on his heel with a sharp click. She should be. Not many got to see The Peter Show live and personal without paying. Oh, he loved to joke, even with himself.

S. h. E. l. l.She clapped as he finished, holding her hands high and being dignified with her subtle applaud. Her feet took her another couple of feet forward, a bit impressed by his show. She raised a small brow at him, but merely grinned. But of course. I'm Shell, if you were wondering. She gave a small bow. She straightened herself out, colder than before, but not really caring about it. She noticed the way he was looking over her, satisfaction on her face. Shell enjoyed attention, especially if recognizing her style. She spent a while working on making herself look the best she could and now it was showing. Appreciation of her efforts were loved and indeed gave him a certain 'head-start' on the other guys in the school. Beauty wasn't something she wanted to known for. It was her creativity.
She was an odd gal, no doubt. How long did it take you to learn? It's quite a unique skill. She, too appreciated a good art form.

Peter was immediately intrigued with the way she spoke, in a quiet voice, as if she was whispering a secret to a friend. Here they were, out in the open. Why didn't she scream to the sun? That's what he did. He loved being loud. Loud was good, made him feel powerful. And after wards he felt empty, but it was a nice sort of empty. He couldn't imagine bottling up all his energy inside of him and letting it out nice and slow. Peter just didn't have that type of self control.
How long did it take you to learn? It's quite a unique skill is what she said in her quiet little wind chime voice. Unique? He had never though of it as unique, mostly because all the people he hung out with could tap dance too. Well, not as well as him. Still. It was a nice word and he appreciated it, so he mulled it over in his mind, enjoying the ring of it. Unique.
"I've been practicing different types of dance since I was five. Tap dance is one of my favorite-- I call it singing with your feet." Toe heel toe heel. He tapped out, as if to prove a point. "It didn't take me too long-- I'm what you would call obsessive. And he gave her a goofy, lopsided grin and shrugged.

S. h. E. l. l.Impressive. It must've taken a lot of practice. She grinned again. She took another couple of steps forward, afraid she may not have been heard against the blowing wind. Singing with you're feet? My, I've never heard that before. She listened to his taps. Indeed, it is. Rhythmic, yet erratic. Wonderful. She wasn't just saying things to be complimenting. Shell was honestly intrigued by the subject. She was staring at his shoes, wondering how it felt to be in control of the 'singing of the feet.' It was something she knew she would never accomplish. She had a limit to her creativity and skill. She was good at sports; she could play, she enjoyed the exercises, but put her in anything that had all of her concentration in her feet and in a certain pattern, you were in for a hell of a ride.
She looked down at her own checkered flats and compared them. Dance? Failed attempt. Quit after a couple of lessons. Running? Not bad. She could actually do that. Soccer? Don't ask. And yet, even though she was a bit envious of the boy's easy time with the tap-dancing, she still had the certain air around her. She seemed quiet, and yet strong and higher up.

Peter felt his face warming because of her words of praise. Wonderful, wonderful words, the best kind there was. People often said that he did what he did-- performing-- in order to recieve compliments. That made sense. Who didn't enjoy a pat on the back? Sometimes it's all one needed. Shell of course did not know him well enough to realize she was practically giving sugar to a baby.
Wonderful.
Oh right! He should probably share his own name. He chuckled as he remembered. What a silly guy he was sometime. Couldn't even remember to share his own name to a kind, exotic girl on the roof. (How many people got to say that? ) "Thanks. And I'm sorry for being so rude. I'm Peter Zikeman." He bowed, being slightly goofy but genuine in his introduction. "Whatcha doing on the roof, Shelly? Can I call you that? Or would you get angry at me? Hazel eyes widened with curiousity and a bit of hesitance-- they were eyes of a child, innocent, playful, not a trace of mockery in them.

S. h. E. l. l.A pleasure to meet you, Peter. She nodded at him. She may have been angry and flared her temper, had he not looked so innocent with his face. I usually do not enjoy being called Shelly. It's a bit of a hindrance. But, you may call me Shelly if you like, Peter. Shell nodded at him. And I was on the roof to escape the stares and the almost unbearable chatter of the floors below. If I may guess, I would say you were here for the same reason; privacy, no? She smiled at him, her hands held behind her back as the wind began to ruffle her hair and toss it in all directions. She felt the chill of winter across her mostly bare skin and suddenly wished she had the power to copy abilities and use them in such situations. If you do not mind me asking, what is your ability?

Peter's face fell just a little when she told him she didn't enjoy the name Shelly. He found it cute; but then again, he loved giving people pet names. Temperance was Temp, sometimes Lucky (though he rarely called her that) and Mr. A was Nel. It was an instinct to create nicknames for everyone he met. It helped him form a connection and whenever he called them by something he himself had come up with, Peter didn't deny that he felt closer to the person he was talking to.
If you do not mind me asking, what is your ability? She asked politely. He beamed. Though others found his power weird and useless, annoying sometimes, and possibly offensive, he loved it. He played with the idea of using it to show her. But would it upset her? Oh well. If she was that sensitive, then maybe she wasn't worth his time. (Though he still loved her hair to bits!)
So he laughed and responded in her voice, as that was his power--imitating voices to perfection. "My ability?" He spoke. "Guess."

S. h. E. l. l.She waited for his answer, somewhat ready for the bragging and the showing off, but was surprised to hear her own voice. A smile jumped onto her face and she giggled lightly. Oh, so you can imitate people's voices? My, that would be useful over the phone, she grinned at the thought of manipulating people's minds into thinking that someone else was talking to them. Oh, joy. Do you have to be around the person, or can you remember their voice for later use? She was curious now, getting into the details so she could mangle the power apart and figure it out. She could manipulate it to her will and that excited her. How could she use it to make someone's life hell? Or how could she use it to her benefit? Thoughts raced through her head and a serious, concentrated look appeared on her face.

He was happy that she was taking interest. Many people just laughed-- though that didn't bother him, he rarely cared about what other people thought. It was a trait Pete learned from his parents. "Anytime, anywhere love," he answered in a teacher's voice. Then he quickly switched back to his own. "I've been wondering if I can impersonate animals too, but I wouldn't know where to start with that. What about you? LET ME GUESS. He suddenly yelled out, then put his hand to his mouth, remembering that she came up here for quiet. Oops. He would chase her off in no time.
"Sorry. Anyway..." He eyed her playfully, walking closer and skipping around her in a circle. "Shapeshifter maybe?" Or maybe she was a mind reader. Peter had always wished he could read minds though many mind-readers told him that it wasn't all it was cracked up to be. His was so much simpler and easier to use with hardly any side effects. Except for the countless detentions. Peter never learned.

S. h. E. l. l.Shell grinned, hearing a familiar voice from his mouth. A teacher? She admired the power, suddenly, for she loved the fact that it would make a great voice disguiser or that it was helpful in many other ways. Well, it would be helpful to her. When he yelled, though, she flinched away, closing one eye as if she'd been slapped. Loud noises didn't scare her; they irritated the hell out of her. It just looked better if she cringed in agony to make people stop.
When she'd realized he'd asked her power, she froze and tensed up visibly. She hated people asking, but she lightened up a bit, watching as he skipped around her merrily. She would hate to blow out that little fire in him. Only if there's a shape-shifter around me. She cleared her throat and concentrated on him, closing her eyes and picturing him. She found it; that little thread that represented power. In her mind, she'd grabbed it and pulled it toward her. Well? she said in his voice. What do you think? Power nulling or manipulation. If i wanted to stop your power from working, i could do that, or as you can see, i can use it to my advantage, she stopped using his voice, coughing a bit to get her throat cleared. And paralyzation, but that wears me out way too fast. She gave a cute shrug, not attempting to come off as a bragger.

Peter listened and watched in amazement. He had heard of these people. The type that could 'steal' your power for themselves. He had never met one and really didn't want to; Pete coveted his power. It was the only thing that he could really call his own. He shared his other talents with his friends but this... was his. So of course he felt cheated when she took his power and used it. It was like she was stealing his answers on a test. That's how it felt.
But Peter didn't let it show. He was an actor so it was easy to pretend like he was simply interested in her power. "That's extremely powerful then. Can you take anyone's power?" He was thinking of everyone he knew. Some of their powers were quite personal, some of them not even physical attributes. For instance, could this girl use Temperance's power, though Temperance's ability was so subtle it was pretty much not an ability at all? And if she couldn't, maybe that would solve the mystery of Temperance's power: If she had one, or if she was simply a very lucky girl, and nothing more.

S. h. E. l. l.Powerful. She liked that. But, she couldn't completely agree. It's a defense mechanism. If i don't see the power coming, then my power automatically nulls it. If it's a threat, that is. If I see the attack coming, or i see a power I like, as long as I am within my boundary, i can use it. If you were to go to the other side of the roof, i couldn't use your power, she explained. Any power there is, I can control. I can usually sense other people's powers before they come at me. She shrugged cutely. It depends on the power and what it can do. Shell sighed lightly, brushing the blowing hair from her eyes. The paralyzation is extremely useful, but I cannot use it for long or I will collapse. It's a drain on my energy. Her eyes met his.
I would also appreciate it if you wouldn't tell anyone else about my power, her voice was icy as she spoke to him. People traipsing around and giving away her secrets would suffer. Especially in a school with many power she could manipulate to her whim.

Peter nodded. "Okay, that's fine. Your secret is safe with me." And he pretended to lock his mouth shut and then throw the key off the roof. He could sorta understand why she wouldn't want her power getting out, though there was no way she could keep it a secret for long. There were mind readers and people who sensed over people's powers and then, of course, the school had files on people that probably listed the powers of students-- especially if those powers are potentially dangerous. Though Shell's power was safe with him, that didn't mean it wasn't going to get out eventually.
"Though I really wish you could meet my friend. Then we could settle if her 'power' is really a 'power' once and for all."
