Amara sat in intense boredom as the teacher droned on and on about whatever the hell he was being payed to teach. No one was listening to him anyways. The class was throwing their own little party and he just kept talking. A volcanoe could have errupted there and then and the teacher wouldn't have noticed. Amara. was in a bit of a bad mood; for one, she wasn't wearing any gloves. Someone had confiscated them for reasons unknown. Normally, no gloves for most people isn't a biggie. But to Amara, it's a life-or-death thing. For everyone else. Hurry up with your teaching, she silently begged the teacher. I just need to get home before someone accidentally brushes against me. Is that so hard to ask? Apparently so. The teacher kept talking. Her expression grew murderous, then calm again. Fer cryin' out loud! To make matters worse, she had lost her hoodie, and was left wearing a t-shirt. And it felt like no one bothered to heat the classroom at all. So she was cold, wary, and pissed. Just look as forbidding as possible, she told herself. Who knows, it might get me out of here faster. She settled back, sighing. Did this lesson ever end? She tried to look as detached as ever, to avoid anyone disturbing her. But there was always that one stupid student who dared in every class.

"Neptune is the eighth and farthest planet from the Sun in the Solar System. It is the fourth largest planet by diameter, and the third largest by mass. The planet is named after the Roman god of the sea. Discovered on September 23, 1846, Neptune was the first planet found by mathematical prediction rather than regular observation."
Two half closed blue eyes surveyed the room in utter boredom, their focal destination set to be nowhere. A small, light hand with a thin black glove slipped over it pulled the top of a dark blue hoodie over a face, darkening it. The eyes closed. He waited, trying to get some rest. He yearned to hear the ringing of the large red bell overhead, but nothing happened. The teacher, some old coot from the middle ages, continued talking about...well...Neptune. Jack didn't care at all about Neptune. He knew enough about it, and quite frankly, he never wanted to be a scientist or an astronaut. He pulled his iPod speakers out from his pocket in put them up to his ears, but not in them. He intended to listen to the songs, but still be able to hear the bell. He couldn't wait for it to come. Literally. He would have stood and left right then if another figure hadn't been right in near him. A couple of tables across the room from Jack was a lonesome character, who looked quite cold. Jack looked up to the professor, and looked back over to the girl in the chair just a few seats away. He sighed and stood up. Nobody noticed. He grabbed his chair and carried it over to sit beside the girl. She had chocalate brown hair dashed with red streaks in the front. Jack whispered to himself as he pulled the hoodie off from his head and sat the chair down. "Jay, don't screw up. She's older than you anyway. Just act as if she's another friend of yours, like she's a dude. She's probably like sixteen anyway. Just don't be stupid." He wrapped his iPod speakers and tucked them back into the pocket of his jeans. He lifted his head to look at her. She didn't seem to be in much of a good mood. It seemed normal. He had seen her in this class previously. She was never in a good mood, really. But Jack was bored, and he continued with what would soon possibly be an introduction to a new friend.
"Boring enough in here?" He laughed a little and smiled, looking once more back at the teacher and then to the girl. "I'm Jack Timbers. Uh, you can just call me Jay, though. I like it better."
He paused for a moment and surveyed what she was doing. Just sitting and being bored, he assumed. She had her hands clenched tightly is if it was adnormal to have her hands exposed. Jack wanted to make a good impression as soon as he could. That was his best technique for having friends, of course. He studied her features before remembering who she was. Jack had seen her with Silver Arcadia, another Solstice student.
"Umm...you're Amara, right? I think I've seen you around with Silver Arcadia, right? You look kinda cold. Do you want to borrow my scarf or something? I've got some gloves."
He slipped the back gloves off of his hands and layed them out on the desk. "Not bad, Jay. You're nice enough to make a good first impression." He murmered under his breath.

Amara looked over at the boy. He looked kinda cute, and seemed nice enough. She decided that she liked him, and favored him with one rare, dazzling smile, the kind that transformed her whole face and tended to make the guys jaws drop. Hey. Yeah, I'm Amara. Amara Aquila. I'd love to shake hands, but, uh... she cut herself off. Unless she was asked, she wouldn't tell him her power. There was a chance he knew already, but if he did, he probably wouldn't have come over here. It might be best if she just moved away or something, that way there would be no chance of trouble. But hey, she thought. It's not often I get to talk to other people. Link's nice enough, but a bit too old for me. And Silver tends to be a bit phsyco. So instead of sticking to her former plan and walking away, she decided to take Jay up on his offer. So, Jay, can I use your gloves please? It would be great if I could. You new here? she made small talk while she waited for his answer. This kid seemed genuinely interested in talking to her, so she decided to take a chance. But just in case, she edged away a bit, so that she wouldn't be close enough for an accidental brush. It was only a little, so Jay wouldn't notice.

Jay lifted his gaze to meet Amara's eyes as he spoke, both in the cause of being considerate, and in intrest of her character. "Hey. Yeah, I'm Amara. Amara Aquila. I'd love to shake hands, but, uh..." She seemed to be hiding something, but it wasn't obvious. Jay immediately assumed it had something to do with her power, but he didn't specifically know what it was. He pushed it to the back of his mind and listened as she continued. "So, Jay, can I use your gloves please? It would be great if I could. You new here?" He lifted the little black gloves and passed them over to her part of the desk in which they both inhabited. He smiled. "Pleasure, Amara." He would've shaken her hand at that moment, but for her sake, he threw his introductory manners of the sory away.
"Of course you can borrow my gloves. They'll probably fit you pretty well. You've got small hands. My cousin got these for me. She doesn't have a clue how much I've grown since she last saw me." He lifted his hands in front of his face and inspected them for a moment, before lowering them again and laughing. "So yeah, I'm pretty new. Its been a several months now, but its still my first year. What about you? Have you come here long, Amara?"

Amara slipped on the gloves, letting out a small relieved sigh. She never felt comfortable without gloves on, always afraid, never able to relax. Now she could, just give her a hoodie and everything would be perfect. Yeah, she replied to Jay's question. I've been here a while, and it's okay, i guess. My friend hates it here though. Too confining for her powers, apparently. By the way, what's your gift? You know, your ability? Amara was suddenly very curious about what he did. It would probably be better than her power. Hell, anything was better than her power. Come on, tell, she smiled. It'll be definitely better than what I do, don't worry.oh, yeah! she held out her hand. we can shake now. The gloves did fit her surprisingly well, and they were one of her favorite colours; black. Looks good on me, she mused. And it's comfy. she checked the brand name, mentally reminding herself to buy herself a pair of these if she couldn't find her old ones. And a new hoodie. Did this lesson ever end? she checked her watch; another ten minutes.

Jay was glad to see that the gloves slipped onto her hands nicely. She seemed surprisingly relieved to have something covering her fingers. He thought he could see her shoulders lower with relaxation, and her mood even seemed to slightly shift. She seemed much moe interested in the conversation than shge had before. Well, it is something to do, I guess. Jay thought. "Yeah,"she replied to his earlier question. "I've been here a while, and it's okay, I guess. My friend hates it here though. Too confining for her powers, apparently. By the way, what's your gift? You know, your ability."
Jack stretched his arms out to his sides for a moment before leaning back in to the desk to listen to what she had to say. "Come on, tell. It'll be definitely better than what I do, don't worry." She paused for another moment and then shot her eyes up to meet his. "Oh yeah, we can shake now." She smiled.
He put his hand forward, shaking hers firmly."Oh, my power? Its kinda cool, I guess. Very simplistic." He lifted his left hand up to the level of his shoulders in front of him. A little droplett of water dripped from his palm and ran down his fingertips, finally dripping onto his hoodie. "I can create and move water. Its convenient, for when I need a quick drink, and its awsome for wasting class time like this. I just play around with it and flick the drops at peoples' heads."
He pulled the sleeves of his hoodie back up his arms, flicking the water and making it dissapear into the air. "And, uh, how about you? What's your power? He glanced down at ther hands, now covered from the gloves. He smiled and gazed back into her face. "So, I'm assuming it has to do with your hands, and you can't touch people from the way you didn't shake my hand when I first came here. You say it sucks, right? What is it? Do you have needles in your palms or something? He laughed at his joke, personally finding it quite funny. He quickly looked at the professor, seeing that he was still ranting on about Neptune. What moron would actually pay attention to this crappy old guy? He thought to himself, as he pulled a little dark blue phone from his pocket to chack the time. Seven more minutes.

Amara giggled at the raindrop comment, watching in a bit of fascination as it rolled away. Finally, she turned her attention back to Jay. That is cool, she smiled. It disappeared as he asked what her power was. Well, she sighed. I suppose you have the right to know. Don't blame me when you run away. she lifted up her gloved hand to stare at it. My skin is dangerous. If I touch someone, I give them a disease, be it cancer or the common cold. I try to cover up at all times, but sometimes... she gestured at her bare arms, and waited for Jay to pale and walk off slowly. It's what she would do, if someone else had her power. But she wouldn't wish this personal hell on anyone. She always had to cover up, unless people weren't around. It played hell with her social life. She hated her power. Amara used to have a boyfriend. When she developed her power without knowing, bye bye boyfriend, sent to the hospital with terminary cancer. And, she added. If I stare at something intensely for too long, they'll fall unconscious. So, if you know what's best for your health, you might want to go, she added mentally.

His blue eyes shifted suddenly to looks at her, but not obviously. He tried to act as natural as possible, as if her power, possibly fatal, was merely as simple as his. He relaxed his shoulders a bit, then waved his head to adjust his hair a little. He thought about it all for a moment, making sure that it still was safe to stay around Amara. He believed her to be a good person, but found it reasonable to question this. He sat up in his chair and scooted his feet forward. "Oh, okay. Then the real question is, am I wise to trust you not to hurt me? Because I do. I think that if you had any intention of hurting me in any way, you wouldn't have hesitated this long."He wondered if her staring applied even when she was blinking consistantly, making the lenght broken, or if she did forcefully stare--without blinking--he would become unconcious. He scratched his forearm and looked down at ther hands. "Oh, by the way, you can keep the gloves then. I need some new ones anyway." He shrugged. After a second, he lifted hiis hands and strummed the air with the fingering of a violin, imagining what it would be like if those hands were harmful and would hurt someone instead of making music.

Amara watched his reaction closely, watched him try to relax as if the ability to make people die was an everyday thing in his life. She appreciated that, but it was weird, how calmly he was taking it. This guy was... unusual. And interesting. I try not to hurt people, Amara said. And I wouldn't hurt you. You're just an innocent person trying to strike up a conversation with a weird girl. And thanks for the gloves, I really needed a new pair. she smiled. I'm trying to find out a way that I can turn my gift off, for a while, at least. You know Link Arcadia? Tall, extremely good-looking, acts like an idiot most of the time? Well, I think he might be able to help me. He's a telepath, so don't go near him, unless you're comfortable with him knowing every single thought you've ever had. AND he can tell the future.Link was Silver's brother, and, to Amara, had the exterior of a goofball. Always flashing that perfect grin around, creeping people out by knowing exactly what to say. But still, can't avoid the fact he was hot. AND he had the face of Hugh Jackman, the sexiest man of the year! (sorry, but I love Hugh Jackman I think that maybe his telepath powers would be able to turn off my power, for a little while. I could be an ordinary person, at least for a bit, you know? I could have a social life, a boyfriend, wouldn't have to go around wearing long-sleeved things and gloves. It'd be awesome! Have you ever had trouble with your power? she asked, still grinning at the thought of an ordinary life.

Jay looked deep into his memories, trying to find the face of Link in the back of his mind. He looked up and smiled. Ah, yeah. I remember Link. He's the one with the long black hair, right? No wonder he can read minds. He kept looking at this one girl in the study hall as if he knew something really creepy about her. It was pretty funny to watch, actually." Jay pulled the sleeves of his hoodie over his hands to substitute for gloves. He hoped Amara didn't notice that he was a little cold. She seemed to need the gloves much more than him. Lifting his shoulders to crack his back, he thought about how Link might be able to help her control her power like a switch-it turns on and off with the simplest method. Jay looked at his own hands, feeling the silky water drip down his fingers and into his palms. He realized how nice it was to control his powers--his powers that were nearly harmless to anything. I've never had any trouble with it. Its basically harmless unless its power is harnessed to make a tsunami or something. But that's definately not easy. But, clearly, I'm not the person who likes to cause trouble, so this power, in my opinion, matches my serene nature very well. He took a little U-turn in his head back to how Link might help her control her usage of the powers. He couldn't think of any way he might help. "So what's Link going to do to help you anyway? Predict the future and tell you if it'll ever happen?" Jay said sarcastically as he peered up at his cell phone again. Six minutes. He glanced up at the professor, still oblivious that Jay had even moved from his original seat on the corner of the room. Enough about Neptune already! Is there anything more that you can say about it? Geez. He wanted to leave from the class right at that moment, but deep inside he felt completely contented talking to Amara. She was such an interesting person, with so many intruiging things to tell about.[/blockquote]

Amara giggled. Maybe. But, since he's a telepath, I was thinking, maybe he could just go through my head until he found the off-switch for my power. I saw it done a in a tv show once. It could work. It will work. she looked so determined at that moment, anyone could just look at her face and believe her. Then she relaxed. I think Link would do it for me. I am his sister's best friend, after all, and he's weak. Amara gave that little laugh again, thinking of how she could do that. All it would take was a little slip of the glove, and he would do anything she said, under fear of her skin. Plus, they were actually friends. You got any friends here at Solstice, any family? she asked, in an attempt to keep the conversation going. Argh, that teacher was really getting on her nerves! She glared at him, and he stumbled, looking like he was about to faint. Whoops, she thought, immediately turning her face sunny. The teacher regained his footing and was alright.

Jay was surprised to think of how Link would help her. He hadn't thought of anything of the sort happening. HE turned to the teacher to see him stumble a bit at the head of the classroom. Neptune must have be boring him too.Jay thought, nearly laughing out loud at his own thoughts. It was probably true. Jay knew that he would hate being a teacher, no matter what. He still heard Amara's voice in his head, and had been so distracted that he almost forgot that she had been talking. Luckily, he hadn't missed anything she had said to him. Who on Earth--or Neptune, for that matter," He looked up at the teacher, who still ranted on about the distant planet. "...Would have a TV show about that?" He joked. He smiled a bit, and even began laughing lightly. His cheeks flushed with color, brigtning his smile. He glanced up at the clock again. Five minutes. He thought. "Not that I can think of really. I don't have many friends here, ya know? You, and...uh...my other friend moved to California a while ago. Do you remember James Berylston? Probably not. He didn't come herre long. Well, he was like, my only buddy. I could use some new ones." He glanced up at Amara and smiled. "Here's my start. The teacher kept speaking. Jay leaned forward in his seat, in the direction of the teacher. Tell me, Mr. Shaw, does Neptune have any water on its surface?" He spoke under his breath, just loud enough for Amara to hear. He stretched his fingers forward and splashed the water towards Mr. Shaw's back. He barely reacted other than a little jolt in his head. Jay laughed.

She gave a slow, evil grin. I wonder... she trailed off. Why don't you make a tiny downpour splash on to his head? No one would be able to trace it to you, and if they did, they'd be too scared off getting sick. she really was desperate for a bit of excitement, and this guy seemed like the right source for it. She was glad he hand't really noticed the teacher and the little stumble. She would have to be careful about who she stared at for too long. C'mon, she whispered coaxingly. It'll be funny. Please? she did the little pouting thing, the kind that turned the people in to putty in her hands. It worked on everybody, even Link, and he could read her mind. She suddenly heard a loud whisper coming from the other side of the room. Dude, is that Amara acting friendly with some kid? Never thought I'd live to see the day, She turned her frosty face to them, hand twitching to her other hand, tempting her to pull off the glove and go over there. Ooh! She was talking to someone! What a miracle! Maybe we should all go and surround her with meaningless chatter! Her eyes narrowed, and one of the people slumped in their chair for a minute. Dammit! She had to get this glare thing under control. So instead of going over there like she was originally planning to, she just gave them a careless little wave and a flashing smile. Idiots, she thought.

Jay turned when he heard the voices of the people behind his chair, talking about him, he glanced back with a neutral expression on his face. He worried that Amara would lose her temper, and his conversation would be lost forever. He didn't want that. The conversation seemed like something that wouldn't happen ever again really, seeming that Amara, as much of an interesting character that she was, had a very short temper. Anyone who interrupted would ruin the feeling. Jay lifted his arm and tapped her forearm with his hand. He was slightly worried about her power, but knew that she was wearing sleeves. He directed her attention back to the table in which thay sat. "Don't worry about them. They obviously don't know how nice the person they're talking about really is inside. And, as I like to say, I'd prefer not to break the concentration of the conversation, if you know what I mean. I really like talking to you Amara. You're a very interesting person." He laughed a little before lifting his hand and facing his palms to the onlookers of their conversation. Shut up, dumbass retards." Jay said under his breath. He made a splash of water pour onto their heads, making all of them look up in confusion. "That'll teach 'em. Is that enough entertainment for ya? Lets just make sure the rest of class is interesting, shall we?" He did the same palming motion towards the teacher, Mr. Shaw, and it splashed onto the top of his half bald head. There." Now he didn't even bother looking at his watch, Jay wouldjn't mind if he stayed here for another long while. Amara was really nice.
